Andy McKee is among the world’s finest acoustic guitarists. An acoustic guitar has a hollow body that amplifies the vibrations of the strings, and doesn’t require electrical amplification. Andy has spent his time perfecting his love of playing the guitar. He has learned how to move his fingers in ways that help transmit the vibration of the strings to the air in the preeminent way. Andy started playing at age 13 when his dad bought him his first guitar. Fear is what stops most people from following their dreams, but not for Andy. While he was in high school it was well known that Andy had something special when being a musician. With his mother’s blessing he quit attending high school and got his GED. A huge gamble he took by overcoming his fears of failure to follow his passion. When you do what you love it’s not work, and your opportunity for success is much more accomplishable. I’ve always admired people who follow their dreams, and Andy is amongst one of these individuals who did just that. His gamble paid off dividends when he approached by CGP sounds to be the first artist who has been signed by them.
“To be the first person on his label is surreal, and I’m excited and proud to be a part of it.”said Andy. Since then he has been featured in many magazines and was on the cover of Acoustic Guitar Magazine in the U.S. and Acoustic Magazine UK. His total YouTube views for his videos are approaching 100 million. “Yeah thanks a lot for uploading! It’s not like I need to make a living with my music or anything. 8,676 thieves. If you really appreciate what I am doing, buy my CD legitimately so I can continue to compose music rather than work at K-Mart. I’m not Metallica. I don’t have hundreds of thousands of dollars, much less millions.” said Andy. He is a humble kind soul who shares his beauty with the world by playing the guitar. Andy says the most problematic part of being a musician was figuring out how to keep those dual rhythms going between the drums and the keyboard part in the intro. Andy also plays the piano a little bit, and believes that is what has helped a lot with being able to separate the two hands and rhythms.
“I’ve always wanted to do a live album; for quite a few years I’ve felt it’s something that has been missing from my collection of releases,” says Andy. “This album features some of my YouTube hits like ‘Drifting’ and ‘Rylynn’, some songs from my 2014 EP Mythmaker, and a cover of a Michael Hedges song called ‘Because It’s There’ played on harp guitar that I haven’t released yet.” Andy is currently on tour in the US.
